My feelings -TOK Essay.
Student Olga Szczepaniak (3b) has decided to share her knowledge about her feelings and emotions about writing TOK Essay. Thank you Olga :)IB is both an appealing and specific programme with even more specific components. Whilemost people have heard about subjects such as Geography or Physics, the concept of Theory of Knowledge may be confusing at first. This subject is connected to understanding the holistic nature of knowledge, which can be found in different areas and can be sought in multiple ways. In order to understand it multiple terms such as Areas of Knowledge (for example the Arts, Natural Sciences) or Ways of Knowing (for example sense perception, language) need to be mastered. After two years students are required to write an essay on one of five topics provided by IB. Those essays need to provide a balanced outlook on the taken issue with the usage of situations from life and theory of chosen subjects (Areas of Knowledge).
When I firstly started preparing to write this essay I needed to decide between: “Avoiding bias seems a commendable goal, but this fails to recognize the positive role that bias can play in the pursuit of knowledge.” and “Areas of knowledgeare most useful in combination with each other.”. I have chosen the former one because I have thought that it may broaden my horizons. Even though the process of writing was in a way problematic I have developed better understanding about topics that were previously interesting to me. I like that TOK gives me an opportunity to combine different topics and create new ways of understanding discussed issues. I already can tell that this subject showed me new ways to understand the knowledge and perspectives of other people.
